关于肌上皮细胞的来源目前尚有分歧,但越来越多的证据支持Brown等提出的序列分化模式。这主要是双潜能前体细胞的发现。Shirasuna[10]1986年发现在涎腺导管系统存在至少能双向分化的干细胞。本实验通过电镜观察,发现肌上皮细胞与分泌细胞是同时发生的,位于基底板内,并发现一些细胞其形态介于肌上皮细胞和导管细胞之间。有研究已克隆了这种中间细胞,认为可能为体外培养时上皮细胞向肌上皮细胞的分化阶段和体内的终末导管结构。故提示发育中的涎腺具有共同的上皮性干细胞可多向分化,可分化为肌上皮细胞、腺泡细胞和导管细胞。此推测与Tsukada T等的结论相同。
